The perfect calibrator for Surface, Infrared and immersion calibrations.
The EDL Practi-Cal® industrial temperature calibrator is your solution
to temperature calibration in a manufacturing environment. Functionality,
features, and reasonable cost make the Practi-Cal® the obvious choice
in temperature calibrators.
There are three main areas of concern in temperature calibration.
These are Surface, Infrared, and Immersion; the Practi-Cal® provides
a calibration source for all three. Contained within one source we
have provided; one and one half square inches of surface area for
surface calibration, a two and one half inch diameter black body source
for non-contact infrared calibration and three standard sized probe
wells for Immersion testing.
In industry much consideration is given to accuracy and stability
during process measurements and calibration, this is why we have provided
front panel connections to independent thermocouple references for
each area of the calibrator. This "remote
reference" feature allows the user to greatly improve
their overall uncertainty by utilizing an external reference that
is measuring the specific area of the calibration block being used.
Another major contributing factor for non-contact measurements is
the spot size of the surface being measured. Most infrared calibrators
do not address this problem; however, the Practi-Cal® is available
with an optional iris. The iris is mounted in front of the black body
source to provide an adjustable aperture. To utilize this feature
you simply position your infrared device at a fixed distance and location
centered on the black body and then you the close the aperture until
a one percent drop in reading is achieved. You then measure the diameter
of the iris opening and you now know the exact spot size at that distance.
Practi-Cal® is the only calibrator that has its calibration block
ungrounded and isolated form the heating source so you can safely
and confidently calibrate grounded as well as ungrounded sensors.
In addition, this keeps you from seeing unnecessary AC ripple in your
readings, while eliminating potential ground loops.

Because industrial processors are dependent on their calibration
source, we have chosen to use generic components for nearly every
electrical component used in this calibrator. Off the shelf relays
and controllers may be purchased from EDL or through your local industrial
goods supplier. With the purchase of the Practi-Cal® you receive
a complete set of electrical diagrams so that your in-house technicians
can perform preventative maintenance as well as repairs, thus eliminating
long delays caused by shipping and ordering processes.
The unique Practi-Cal® design allows a great deal of flexibility
in its application and use. In addition, all of the parts used in
this unit are manufactured at our facility. The complete design and
fabrication is done in-house, so if you have a special requirement
please contact our sales department. Examples of special requirements
might be different temperature ranges, custom well sizes, curved surfaces,
or any other type of unusual temperature calibration requirement.
Our engineering and laboratory staff provides technical support for
the Practi-Cal®. We have an extensive calibration laboratory that
will perform the necessary calibrations for all of your temperature
measuring equipment.
